Bringing Books to Life - The Enormous Crocodile

1) Warm Up

2) Games
a) Space Game
b) Crocodile to Crocodile

Put children in 3 groups (6 if working with KS2.) Get  them to work on their frieze and bringing the picture  to life in slow motion.  Show them the part of the story  their freeze needs to show by showing the picture in  the book.

Group 1 – Crocodile pretending to be a palm tree,  Mary & Toto going to collect coconuts.

Group 2 – Crocodile pretending to be the see-saw in  the playground.

Group 3 – Crocodile pretending to be one of the seats  on the carousel at the fun fair.

This can be taught at the end but to get the children to their groups.

Take Group 1 and half of group 2 to one side, and then the other half of group 2 and Group 3 to  start off stage on the other side.

They all move  together as the Enormous Crocodile with a small bit of choreography (see video) before they all crouch  down into a box,  except Group 1.

Group 1 hit their frieze and then in slow motion bring the picture to life.

All groups jump up and everyone becomes the  Humpy-Rumpy Hippo and do the hippo movements together (see video.) All crouch down except Group 2.

Group 2 hit their frieze and then in slow motion bring the picture to life.

All groups jump up and become the Muggle-Wump Monkey (see video)  All crouch down except Group 3

Group 3 hit their frieze and then in slow motion bring the picture to life.

All groups become the roly poly bird and move around the space pretending to fly, filling the stage area to end in space for group choreography section.

Tell rest of story altogether – The Crocodile pretending to  be the bench at the picnic table, the elephant coming  along, taking the crocodile and swinging him in the air until he flies up to the sun and explodes. (SEE VIDEO)
